“Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own? No one – for God himself has given us right standing with himself. Who then will condemn us? No one.” Romans 8:33 – 34.
We all have things in our past that we aren’t proud of. We are ashamed of things we foolishly did in our youth. Something we have never told anyone. These untold sins can weigh on our hearts and make us feel condemned.
What if you found out there was a way that no one could ever condemn or accuse you again? What a weight would be lifted off of our hearts. It would be a wonderful feeling and we all would do anything to have your accusers silenced for eternity. Beloved – there is a way to be free from accusation today.
Remember the story of the woman caught in adultery? (John 8:1-11.) She was caught in the middle of a shameful act and drug out in the street where Jesus was asked to condemn her. What she has done in secret was now her public ridicule and shame! This was one act in a life filled with broken dreams, loss, and betrayal. Her accusers didn’t know her pain, nor did they care. Much the same way people in our lives are today. They don’t know where we have walked, what we have been through, and who has broken our hearts. Yet they stand as accusers ready to condemn us. They have sympathy and understanding for the sins they have made, justifying themselves and their actions. They understand the circumstances and the pain that caused them to make those decisions, so they are justified in their own eyes. Unfortunately, when it comes to others they have blinders on.
In that story, many accused her – but not Jesus. Jesus looks beyond our sinful acts and beyond our shame. He sees our repenting hearts looking for a way out of the mess we have created. “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1Cor. 10:13 Be assured that if you trust in Jesus, then no one – absolutely no one – will ever be able to accuse you because you have already been forgiven.
Do you feel free from the past? Or do you lie awake at night in fear of your loved ones finding out about your past? In Romans 8, Paul explains that those in Christ are free, and no one can accuse you. You can have peace with God, peace with others, and peace with yourself.
Take your heavy heart to Jesus and know that He created you to live free in Him.
