The love of God has so many facets that it is unfathomable. The Bible tells us that God’s love is hard to comprehend. Scripture tells us His love motivated Him to do great things for us. It caused Him to adopt and protect us; His love will never fail. It is a love to be celebrated and came to us on Christmas morning.
- God’s love is too great to understand.
“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.” (Ephesians 3:18-19 NLT)
We have a great God that loves us with great love, but we as humans cannot fully comprehend it. From the beginning, God has wanted us to enter into the love that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit share. God said, “Let us make man in our image.” We are made in God’s image with the capacity to love and be loved. Unfortunately, in this fallen world, we struggle to love perfectly and receive God’s perfect love for us.
- God’s love is a shield that protects us.
“For you bless the godly, O Lord; you surround them with your shield of love.” (Psalm 5:12 NLT)
God’s love is so much more than a warm and fuzzy feeling of euphoria; it is also a strength that protects us. When you run to God for protection, He provides it, and there is a feeling of safety and security, eternal security.
- God’s love will not fail.
“Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds.” (Psalm 36:5 NLT)
People will always disappoint you, they don’t mean to, but they are human. They love for selfish or fleshy reasons and can change their minds and betray you. God never disappoints! His love is unconditional and faithful not only to you but to all generations.
- God loved you so much that He adopted you.
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Ephesians 1:5 NLT)
The laws for adopting a child are interesting. You cannot disinherit an adopted child. It is permanent, especially with God. You are a child of God. It’s a familiar phrase but let it sink into your spirit and soul. God has adopted you, and it’s for keeps.
- God loved you so much that He sacrificed His Son for you.
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NLT)
A parent’s love for a child is the closest one human can have for another. If you don’t have children, it is hard to grasp the depth of love that God had to have for us to give His only Son. If you are a parent, it is easier to understand the pain God experienced and the expense He paid for mankind. Most parents would rather die themselves than let their children perish. But God loves us so much that he was willing to let His Son be born of a woman, be misunderstood and mistreated, and ultimately die for our sins so that we could be adopted into His family permanently. Nothing we can ever do will separate us from His love. That’s an unfathomable love.
