What comes to mind when you think of the word “daughter?”

What does it mean to be a daughter of the King?

Let me ask it another way, “How has your experience as a daughter shaped how you view God as a Father?”

One of the most significant ways God has helped me discover what it means to be a daughter of the King has been through experiences with my daughter. One of the first lessons was when I brought her home and held her with my tears leaking onto her puffy cheeks.

I cried because I desperately wanted to protect her and keep her safe. She felt so tiny and vulnerable in a big and scary world.

God Protects His Daughters

That hunger to protect her gave me a glimpse of seeing God as a Father who protects his daughters. I was learning to see Him as my protector.

You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

PSALM 32:7 NIV

He revealed more of His character and showed me His lavish love for me as I began my journey to heal from childhood sexual abuse.

One of the ways I have experienced God’s love for me is through my love for my daughter. The most recent lesson came at my daughter’s sweet 16th birthday celebration. It has been a challenging year for her, and we wanted to make her night special. So, we surprised her by renting a limo for a night of sushi and painting with friends.

It was amazing.

God Loves His Daughters

When she walked outside, she was so surprised. As I videoed her reaction, I sensed God speaking to the little girl inside of me, “You can’t imagine the surprises I have for you!”

As they gathered on the red carpet in front of the limo, I felt him say, “the red carpet I lay out for you never ends!”

When they brought out the sushi, “Oh, I can’t wait for you to experience the feast I will prepare for you at my table!”

When the first dip of paint smeared the canvas, “Imagine all of the colors I have for you! Paint to your heart’s delight.”

And I did.

As we painted, with each stroke, I reflected on His love for me. While there has been much healing, God continues to take me deeper to learn what it truly means to be a daughter of the King and experience His love.

On September 25, I will share more about what it means to be a daughter of the King at the Boundless Sisterhood women’s conference at LifeSpring Church in Durham. I hope you will register and attend.

As a little girl, were you wounded? Are you grieving and suffering as a woman? Do you know your purpose? Maybe you have given up on a dream? Do you long to experience His lavish love?

Come, and see.

My soul thirsts, pants, and longs for the living God. I want to come and see the face of God.

PSALM 42:2 TPT
